ARTIST STATEMENT
Gaëlle legrand is an artist whose works unfold in installations, involving large scale sculptures, prints and videos. Her practice explores how beings make and take space and how perception of self and otherness is intrinsically connected to the body - human and non-human.Focusing on the patterns of lines and shapes from ecological and geological realms, she approaches the many kinds of selves that make up our world and translates the poetic narratives she senses into tangible forms. Minimalist and organic, her research emerges from a desire to blend the elusive vitality of movement with the heavy, mysterious presence of matter.
More than a confrontation with the “other”, she is looking for connection, for feelings of belonging, empathy, and love. Legrand’s practice is guided by a quest to reconnect with our most ancestral origins, to reveal our kinship with all living forms, exploring how the world is nothing but a giant interconnected weaving.
