ARTIST STATEMENT

Encompassing sculpture, painting, printmaking and drawing, Florence Viau’s practice examines the making of images in different human technological contexts. Her work focuses on the themes of nature, memory and language, as well as tools and technologies, ancient or current, that can be used to preserve them.

She draws inspiration from both the archaeological and digital worlds, where landscape is (de)materialized through time and interface, and tangible matter is confronted with the complexity of our communicative surfaces. Her current research focuses on various celestial and luminous phenomena that can be observed with the eye or a lens, in line with ancient astronomy and today's space exploration.
